Mentorship Program
The SHRM Greater Valley Forge Mentorship Program connects emerging and developing HR professionals with experienced HR leaders for one-on-one support, guidance, and professional growth.
Three-month cohorts are offered twice each year, in the spring and fall. Each cohort includes a virtual kickoff, guided monthly discussions, individual mentor and mentee meetings, brief participant check-ins, and recognition at a SHRM GVF chapter program.
Mentors
Experienced HR professionals share their knowledge, perspective, and encouragement with someone growing in the field. Mentors help mentees explore professional goals, build confidence, develop new skills, and navigate opportunities and challenges within internal HR roles.
Mentees
Mentees receive individualized support as they develop their careers, build new skills, or consider their next professional steps. Participants should be prepared to establish goals, actively participate in conversations, and take ownership of the mentoring relationship.
SHRM GVF membership is not required for mentees.
Program Commitment
Participants are expected to:
- Attend the virtual cohort kickoff
- Meet individually with their mentor or mentee throughout the three-month program
- Use the monthly themes and resources to guide conversations
- Complete brief pulse-check surveys
- Participate in the end-of-cohort meeting
- Celebrate the cohort’s completion at a SHRM GVF chapter program
Each cohort is limited to a maximum of six mentor and mentee pairs. Matches are made thoughtfully based on professional experience, career alignment, interests, development goals, and the type of support requested. Because we prioritize meaningful alignment, submitting an interest form does not guarantee a match. All applicants will be contacted regarding their status. Mentor Experience
Overall, it was a really positive experience. HR can be an isolating profession at times. This program provides a dedicated space to connect with another professional, talk through real challenges, and hear a different perspective. It reminded me that mentorship isn't just about one person teaching another. It's about two people learning from each other's experiences. I'd encourage anyone considering the program to participate. Whether you're a mentor or a mentee, you'll get as much out of it as you're willing to put into it.
I truly enjoyed being part of the pilot Mentor/Mentee Program. While I appreciated the opportunity to share my HR experience with Melanie Phen, it was equally a mutual learning experience as we were both working in Talent Acquisition. We also had great discussions around career planning, SHRM chapter involvement, and the value of HR certifications. Most importantly, what began as a mentoring relationship grew into a genuine friendship. It was a rewarding experience, and I'm grateful to have been part of it.
