What is Dual Member Release (DMR)?

SHRM’s Dual Member Release (DMR) program is designed to help grow and strengthen membership within local SHRM chapters like GVFHRA. DMR allows SHRM to directly support chapters by simplifying the membership process and offering powerful tools to increase dual membership. Chapters have been asking for this kind of support for years, and now it’s available. 

How DMR Benefits GVFHRA Operations

DMR streamlines chapter operations and improves the member experience. It provides access to SHRM’s secure, PCI-compliant webstore, simplifies the process for members to join and renew, improves member retention, delivers daily member and transaction reports, eliminates the need for annual membership audits, and offers a complete renewal engine along with marketing tools.

Why DMR Works

Dual members are more engaged and more likely to stay involved. The average tenure of a dual member is more than double that of a local-only member. Dual members are also more likely to be certified, attend more chapter events, and have higher levels of engagement overall. With DMR, members only need to complete one transaction to join or renew both SHRM and GVFHRA, which also simplifies expense reporting.

Benefits of GVFHRA Becoming a 100% DMR Chapter

GVFHRA will receive increased financial support through SHRM’s Chapter Financial Support Program (CFSP). In addition, there is a special 50% discounted SHRM membership rate available to current GVFHRA-only members converting to dual membership, renewable for the first two years. This promotion begins April 14, 2025. The chapter will also be able to market to SHRM national members who are not yet affiliated with GVFHRA. Another benefit is access to a free SHRM Speaker Bureau presenter, including travel expenses (excluding executives and external speakers).

GVFHRA’s Commitment to DMR

While DMR brings many benefits, it also requires commitment. GVFHRA will align member renewal dates with SHRM’s schedule—a one-time adjustment that we will fully support. SHRM will begin selling GVFHRA memberships on our behalf, which requires signing a licensing agreement. By August 31,2026, GVFHRA will transition to 100% dual membership. When local-only memberships come up for renewal, members will be offered dual membership only. 

Note: DMR supports one standard membership type. Student, Honorary, and In-Transition memberships will continue to be managed by GVFHRA.

SHRM’s Commitment to GVFHRA

SHRM will provide the technology and digital tools to support dual membership and promote it jointly with us. Their renewal system will handle communications for both SHRM and GVFHRA memberships, starting 90 days before a member’s renewal date. SHRM will also provide a daily membership roster and transaction report with detailed updates on new and renewing members. GVFHRA is still encouraged to stay in touch with members and continue our engagement efforts.
