Come join representatives from a diverse array of agencies of the U.S. Department of Labor (“DOL”) for an interactive discussion about:

  • the enforcement priorities the DOL will be focusing on during the coming year;
  • what types of investigations DOL field representatives are emphasizing under the current administration;
  • the resources that are available to companies looking to improve their compliance initiatives, veteran recruitment efforts, or safety practices; and
  • other timely topics impacting the work of human resource professionals.

Our Panel of distinguished speakers will include:

Michael Schloss is the Director of the Philadelphia Regional Office of the Employee Benefits Security Administration (“EBSA”) where he oversees a staff of investigators and benefits advisors responsible for administering and enforcing Title I of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (“ERISA”).  Until the end of 2015, Michael was Counsel for Financial Litigation in the Plan Benefits Security Division of the Department of Labor’s Office of the Solicitor (“PBSD”) where he was responsible for many high-profile district court and appellate matters.  Notably, Michael served as PBSD’s lead trial attorney in the Department's action against Enron, Lay, Skilling, Enron's Board of Directors and others.

Nicholas DeJesse is the Assistant Regional Administrator for Region III of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”), the federal agency principally tasked with enforcement of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. In this role, Mr. DeJesse is responsible for cooperative programs such as voluntary protection programs, consultation, agency outreach, grants, and emergency management. In 2013, he led the agency’s investigation into a building collapse in downtown Philadelphia that killed six individuals, and injured several others.  In addition to having held several leadership positions with OSHA, Mr. DeJesse has also held key positions in the Department of Health & Human Services and Department of Homeland Security.

Marcus Wardlaw is the Deputy Regional Administrator for the Philadelphia office of Veterans Employment Training Service (“VETS”), an agency of the DOL that protects the employment rights of veterans and their spouses and seeks to promote their employment opportunities.

Adam Welsh, Esq. is the Wage and Hour Counsel for the DOL’s Philadelphia Regional Office of the Solicitor (“RSOL”), where he focuses his legal practice on the prosecution of cases involving the Fair Labor Standards Act (“FLSA”). Prior to becoming the Philadelphia RSOL Wage and Hour Counsel, Mr. Welsh was the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (“ERISA”) Counsel for that same office.
